Whilst the Sutton Hotel Collection story began in 2017, the hotels themselves have a rich and fascinating history that pre-dates this very new and exciting chapter.
In 1838, The Queens Hotel Cheltenham first opened its doors, named in honour of Queen Victoria as a stunning example of neo-classical architecture and a reflection of Cheltenham’s growing fame and reputation. In the same century, The Castle Hotel Windsor also grew into one of the grandest places to stay in the Royal Borough, indeed, the hotel was so popular among the elite that the Duke of Wellington stepped in to dine after his victory over Napoleon at the battle of Waterloo. Just under two centuries later, The Francis Hotel Bath enjoyed an extensive restoration that transformed the building into a unique Regency-inspired townhouse hotel, combining 21st century elegance with all the splendour of its historic past.
