Francis Hotel Bath spa reception

The Francis Hotel in Bath has officially opened its new spa, marking the final phase of the hotel’s £14 million reimagination of one of the city’s most iconic and historic Georgian hotels. The opening comes just days after the hotel was named in the Sunday Times top 50 places to stay in the UK in 2026.

Located on Queen Square, Bath’s first Georgian square, the Francis Hotel Spa is an intimate sanctuary that draws inspiration from Bath’s centuries-old healing heritage, bringing a contemporary wellness experience to the UK’s city of wellbeing. Designed as a calm retreat beneath the hotel’s Georgian townhouses, the spa features three treatment rooms, Bath’s only private thermal experience suite and a tranquil relaxation area for guests to enjoy pre- and post-treatment. Dedicated changing facilities with showers and lockers allow guests to fully unwind before and after their treatments.

At the heart of the thermal experience is the ESPURO foam steam bath by KLAFS, a cocooning sensory cabin where warm steam and soft cleansing bubbles create a deeply restorative ritual. The private thermal experience suite also includes an experience shower circuit with invigorating hot and cold sprays and jets, a heated relaxation bench, and a warm steam cabin where guests can enjoy playful foam bubbles or take part in a traditional Rasul mud ritual. Guests can begin their experience in the thermal suite before continuing with tailored treatments designed to maximise relaxation and recovery.

Treatments are delivered in partnership with two leading wellness brands. GAIA, whose natural handmade skincare is already featured throughout the hotel, offers holistic rituals rooted in wellbeing, while QMS, renowned for its advanced, results-driven formulas, provides high-performance facial and body therapies.

Guests can enjoy a curated menu of restorative experiences designed to rebalance both body and mind. Alongside holistic GAIA rituals, reflexology and Reiki treatments, signature spa journeys include the Cleansing Thermal Ritual, a playful thermal treatment that softens and revitalises the skin, the Nourishing Thermal Ritual, which combines mineral-rich muds with purifying steam for a deeply cleansing experience, and the collagen reset by QMS, a transformative facial designed to reclaim, retrain, and reform the skin.

Sarah Morris, Spa Manager, comments “As a city renowned worldwide for its wellness heritage, natural spa waters and centuries-old bathing culture, Bath has always been synonymous with wellbeing. Our new spa has been created to honour that legacy while offering something unique for both our hotel guests and the local community. The addition of this brand-new spa allows us to introduce a highly personalised wellness experience delivered by a specialist and passionate spa team. Our thermal experience suite is immersive, enjoyable and cutting-edge, offering a multi-sensory journey unlike anything else currently available in the city.

The spa opening completes Francis Hotel’s wider reimagination, which has seen refreshed interiors across the hotel’s 98 bedrooms and the launch of Michelin Guide-listed restaurant Emberwood, further establishing the hotel as one of Bath’s most thoughtfully crafted hospitality destinations.
